A Classroom Management Program To Change Disruptive Behaviors
Bullies, bystanders, and victims are not born. They are developed by their actions and reactions. For example, a child who hits other children is or has the potential to become a bully. A student who holds up the class by not being able to stay awake is or has the potential to become a victim. And the bystanders may not know what to do with either situation. Therefore if your school has students who bully, interrupt, whine, complain, or behave in other ways that interrupt learning time, you either have bullies and victims or bullies and victims in the making. In either case,it’s time for the Wise Woollies!
These students not only cause problems for other students socially, but they disrupt valuable learning time. It isn’t fair for students who behave themselves, try their best, and want to learn to be sabotaged by students who don’t. Wise Woollies is classroom-management program that enlists the help of those who can change disruptive behaviors best—the students themselves. By giving children the responsibility and power to work with the teacher, they can be involved in changing the blocking behaviors of students who:
Bully
Whine and Complain
Act Up
Wiggle and Jiggle
Hit, Push, and Shove
Have Difficulty Making Decisions
Exhibit Shyness
Wander Around The Classroom
Are Wasteful
Are Too Tired To Function Properly
First, introduce the program by consulting with the teacher and asking the students about disruptive behaviors they have observed in their classroom. Then using their observations, key in on each blocking behavior by presenting a Wise Woollies lesson. Each lesson has students examine the disruptive behavior and determine how it is cheating them out of learning time, then asks the students to decide how they can help the teacher deal with situation.
Includes stick puppet patterns for each lesson. Or, to enhance your lesson presentation, use our adorable Sheep Puppet. One of our favorite puppets!
