A two-session program to introduce young students to the counselor and the counselor’s roles in the school. The format for the first session is a story entitled Who The Counselor Is Not. The clever story also includes pictures of other staff members. So, as the students are learning about the counselor, they are also hearing about the cook, principal, secretary, nurse, and custodian. The story is followed by a game that allows the counselor to learn more about the students’ ability to follow directions.
The second session reinforces and expands on the counselor’s roles within the school. This is done through a game of bingo. Each student receives a bingo card decorated with pictures symbolizing the many roles of the counselor. The final activity directs the students to draw a picture of what the counselor does in the school. The students will draw their pictures at the bottom of a letter to be taken home to their parents/guardians.
