These first days of school can be confusing and scary to young children. This book includes three programs to make the transition from home to school a secure and pleasurable experience.

The first program is called "Hi and Welcome." This workbook-type program gives young students a broad picture of the school day. It includes information about getting ready for school, what students learn, who works in the school, and which days the school might be closed. The workbook is twenty pages long and may be completed in one long session or two or three shorter sessions.

The second program is "I’m Afraid To Go To School." It deals with those children who are afraid of and unhappy about attending school. This story is usually used in one-to-one situations. It includes discussion questions that relate to the importance of school and the importance of the student's participation. The last program stresses the importance of coming to school regularly.

The program "Attendance Is A Very Long Word" can be used into grades two or three. The mascot throughout the entire program is an armadillo. He actively participates in each program and, if desired, an armadillo puppet can be purchased to help the leader present all three programs.
