What is the best age to begin teaching children about bullies and how to avoid them? The answer is as soon as possible.

Bullies can make their appearance at an early age by threatening younger children or children their own age.

Stand Up Against Bullies for Grades K-2 gives educators the opportunity to acquaint young children with strategies for withstanding a bully attack. Using stories, role-play, and accompanying activities, children learn how Brenda Bee and Anthony Ant learned to deal with the bugging bully, Big Beetle.

This eight-lesson curriculum includes:

Stories—A continuing story is presented in each lesson as Brenda Bee and Anthony Ant face the ever-present bully, Big Beetle.

Music—The children reinforce their learning of strategies by using reproducible lyric sheets and singing different verses to a familiar tune during lessons.

Puppet Patterns—Patterns and directions for construction are included for the four main characters—Anthony Ant, Brenda Bee, Big Beetle, and the teacher, Miss Grasshopper.

Role-Play—Using puppets they have made, students act out ways to handle difficult bullying situations.

Posters—Eight reproducible posters for use during instructional time and for children to take home focus on strategies for dealing with a bully.

Supplementary Activity Sheets—Twelve reproducible activity sheets reinforce classroom lessons.
