Potter Pig is the main character in four stories that are designed to teach young students how to manage feelings of anger and to resolve conflicts positively.

The story that teaches self-talk revolves around a classroom incident in which Potter's paper is accidentally ruined by his friend. He loses his temper, gets in trouble with his teacher, and then has to face his parents at home. It's there that his mother teaches both Potter and his little brother about self-talk. The story that deals with fair fighting occurs because of a conflict Potter has with his younger brother. This time mother teaches "I" messages and five rules for fair fighting. Students learn about empathy when Potter deserts his friend at the park and he meets up with Professor Snerzle and his empathy machine. One ride in the empathy machine and Potter, like the listeners, learn about the feelings of other people. Problem-solving is the topic of the fourth story, which results from a family conflict. This time Mother teaches the steps of problem-solving and shows the family members how to resolve a conflict in a way that satisfies everyone. Each story is followed by comprehension questions and activities.
