A Leadership Program For Elementary-School Students
Identifying and developing the character trait of leadership can not be started at too early of an age. For this reason KidLeaders is an important program not only for your school, but for the future of our society. Because most students with leadership potential do not appear to have the high-risk behaviors that many children in today’s school systems display, they can be easily overlooked. This is a grievous mistake on the part of educators as the development of these young leaders is the development of our civilization’s future.
KidLeaders is divided into the Little KidLeaders who are in grades one through three and the Big KidLeaders who are the students in grades four through six. Beginning with helping teachers to identify potential leaders in their classrooms and continuing through training the students to be mentors for younger students and also to accept other appropriate leadership roles within the school itself, KidLeaders lays a foundation for good citizenship, responsibility, and caring.
This complete program includes easy-to-follow instructions for implementing the program, reproducible forms for both teachers and students, and reproducible student mentoring journals. The program’s thrust is to identify students at all grade levels, train the youngest students through leadership responsibilities in their classrooms, and to train older students to become mentors for younger students as well as to become involved in leadership activities for both the school and the community. Once established, it is a program that can powerfully touch the lives of many in approximately 30 minutes per week.
