It s no surprise to any parent to hear that school age children, especially many boys, believe they are invincible and immune from life-threatening accidents. Every year in the United States lives are lost or tragically altered due to child abduction, reckless play with guns and refusal to wear a bike helmet, to name a few. While all of these important issues are addressed to children in schools and various organizations, using animated films, hand puppets and friendly giant animals, with their new safety DVD, Closer Look Films has taken the same approach they do with their hard-hitting and dramatic films addressing school bullying and athlete hazing; pure emotional drama with real kids and adults playing important roles. Because We Love You , a low-priced DVD made up of three stories about tragedies that occur because children do not follow the safety rules they have been, or should have been taught. Each of the three films is divided up into three short sections; the tragedy itself, the child actor returning in the role as the teacher, explaining what personal safety rules were not followed, and then to ice the cake, a replay of the same story with the character doing the right thing; thus avoiding tragedy. Although the short stories are powerful and sad, there is never anything overly graphic. Writer-Director Thomas Brown explains: we don t want to traumatize the kids viewing the films , but we don t want to entertain them either. We want the children to remember what they saw. We believe that young lives can be saved by producing and making available, materials that are more realistic . The Because We Love You DVD features Tommy , Charley and Billy and Josh on one disc, and like all Closer Look films, includes a teaching-guide.
