AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT OF 2009 (ARRA)
The federal government has set aside a considerable amount of monies for education reform and improving student achievement. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (stimulus) provides $10 billion in new funding for programs under Title I, Part A of the Elementary and SecondaryEducation Act of 1965 (ESEA). The ARRA provides an unnique opportunity for educators to implement innovative strategies to improve education for academically at-risk students. Since there are various components to this act, it is the purpose of the materials selected to work towards the ARRA goals of improving student achievement and being usable and effective after the stimulus monies are no longer available.
Students improve academically when they receive a combination of social and academic skills. One without the other promises an incomplete education and does not meet the goal of preparing students to adequately function in the adult world. It is the purpose of this section to provide materials that emphasize study skills and social skills. These materials, when combined with the academic programs selected by the schools will ensure a greater chance of successfully educating our children.
